雨の日にAIGLEのラバーブーツ履いてる女の子見つけると嬉しくなります♪
エーグルの歴史はとても古い。
1850年、創業者であるヒラム・ハッチンソンとチャールズ・グッドイヤーの出会いから始まった。
まず、ゴムの木に興味を持ったチャールズ・グッドイヤーがバルカナイズ製法という方法を発明。ゴムを強化して防水する技術だ。そして、靴やブーツ作りにその技術を役立てようとヒラムが特許を買い取ったことからエーグルの基礎が始まった。
1853年にヒラムはフランスに渡り、ロワール地方のモンタルジという地にゴム工場を設立して、そこで防水の靴やブーツ、衣類の大量生産にとりかかる。そして、アメリカの国鳥である「鷲」にちなんで「AL'Aigle」の商標を登録した。
ゴムという素材は雨から足元を守るには最適な素材。フランスは人口の約90％が地方に在住することから、屋外で過ごす人が多く、足下を雨から守る需要が秋分にあった。ヒラムは有望な市場だと確信していたのだ。
ミニスカートが女性の流行になると、ラバーブーツの名作「ベニーズ」 を発売。瞬く間にファッションアイテムとしてパリの女性を魅了することになった。この頃からアパレル部門も拡大していき、ゴム製品のレインコートの開発もはじまった。
創業から160年以上たった今でも、アウトドア用の靴 、バック、ウェアまで幅広いアイテムを開発し続けて、世界中に愛用者のいるブランドとして愛されている。実用性と機能性に加えてデザインや色の美しさも大切にしているので男女問わず注目のブランドのひとつだ。
